Ah books. There’s nothing I like more than wandering through a bookstore and picking up a few new titles. But it’s all too easy to end up with more books than you could possibly read in a year (or in your lifetime.) Here are some of the books I fully intended to read this year but didn’t end up getting to:
Look at them. They’re taunting me with their pretty covers and exciting synopses. I WANT TO READ YOU ALL, I PROMISE. There’s just dozens of other things I want/need to read too. You understand that, right? Right books? Why are you looking at me like that?
City of the Lost – Kelley Armstrong. I actually had the opportunity to meet Kelley this year and she signed my copy of The Summoning! She read an excerpt from her upcoming release, City of the Lost, and I was so intrigued by its premise I had to go out and buy it later. But did I read it right away? Alas, I did not. I hope she’s not mad at me. But I will definitely be diving into this one in 2017!
The Swan Riders – Erin Bow. I read The Scorpion Rules last year and I LOVED it. But I’m terrified to read the sequel because it’s a dystopian world and we all know what happens in dystopian worlds. Dystopia isn’t my favourite genre, so I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book. But I’m scared, you guys. I just want my babies to live.
The Imposter Queen – Sarah Fine. Okay so this was a cover buy. But can you blame me? The cover is GORG. And I’ve heard good things about it around the bookish community. I don’t know what’s holding me back except that I haven’t been in the mood maybe? Idk. I’m just making excuses now.
The Dark Days Club – Alison Goodman. Maybe I’ve been putting this one off because it’s ginormous. But I did read one of her books ages ago and really liked it, so I’ll definitely get to it soon because it sounds awesome.
Spindle – E.K. Johnston. Alright I intentionally saved this one to read in 2017 because I went bananas and read a bunch of her books this year, so I wanted to have something left over for next year since I don’t know when her next one is coming out. That’s a totally normal thing to do, right?
Scrappy Little Nobody – Anna Kendrick. I just got this one, so at least it hasn’t been sitting on the TBR shelf for as long as some of the others. But it’s still taunting me. Anna’s cute little face is saying, “Read me! I know you want to!” I will soon, I promise. I loved you in Pitch Perfect, btw Anna. “Thanks Bex! Now read my book!” Okay Anna, I’ll read your book.
Heroine Complex – Sarah Kuhn. This one sounds really cute. I’m definitely gonna pick it up soon. It’s got evil cupcakes! What’s not to like?
The Shadow Queen – C.J. Redwine. I really want to read this, but I got a bit burned out on fairy tale retellings and I wanted to wait until I was in the mood again. I’m such a mood reader. There should be a support group for people like me.
A Study in Scarlet Women – Sherry Thomas. Lady version of Sherlock Holmes? Sign me up! Why haven’t I read this yet? What’s wrong with me???

City of the Lost is a definite must! I hope you’ll get to them next year. There are a ton of 2016 releases I didn’t get to, to be honest. So we’re on the same boat.
